Response to Jay's post

I found a really interesting and accurate post on Jay's blog. It's about how people can be sentenced to a lifetime in prison or the death sentence. It also talks about how the death sentence isbetter than the lifetime in prison. Here's a paragraph that summarizes the whole blog post:

Every day that this man stays in Prison, he will be using taxpayer money. Instead of him dying for his crimes, he will sit in prison for up to fifty years knowing that he will die. The difference between that man getting the death penalty and life in prison is that he will be wasting fifty years worth of taxpayer money and he will have to spend years alone and be tortured with the things that come with being in prison such as bad food, small living spaces, and loneliness.

The first sentence in the quote is very important: the man sentenced to life in prison uses taxpayer's money. We are the taxpayers; they're using our money to feed people who should die for their crimes. A life for a life. With the economy as bad as it is, many people cannot pay the tax demanded from them. Imagine yourself starving and then having to feed thousands of prisoners. Also, I'd like to say that fifty years in prison is plenty of time to attempt an escape. If the prisoner is given the death sentence, everyone can sleep a little better at night. The horrors of life in prison- "bad food, small living spaces, and loneliness" - encourages prisoners to attempt an escape. Once the murderer is out on the loose, what will he do?
Finally, I'd like to say that everyone has emotions. There is absolutely no way to completely destroy emotions so that you feel nothing. Killers can regret and feel guilt about killing someone. If they don't want to live anymore, why would you throw them into prison. There are people who don't regret killing at all, but they probably had a good reason for killing someone in the first place. It'd be better to let everyone who wants to die, die. The government should use the murderers life's savings to pay for his/her food, supplies etc. until all the money is gone. Then, the death sentence should be given.
Life in prison affects everybody in the country in a negative way. On the other hand, the death sentence has no negative effects. I think we should change the way in which we deal with these crimes.
