Response to Susan's Post

Susan wrote about freedom. She said that people should be able to do what they want instead of doing what people tell them to do. She even gave an example of how freedom is taken away and the procedures a family went through to get it back.

I want to say that there is no such thing as absolute freedom. There are laws in governments that restrict what you can do. If you go out into the wild, you're governed by the laws of nature. Everywhere you go, there will be some sort of rule that must be obeyed.

The United States of America is a country that gives more freedom to it's citizens than other countries do, hence the saying "this is a free country." But having a lot of freedom doesn't mean you have absolute freedom. The government had money and power; they can tell people what to do and people need to obey them. If everyone had absolute freedom, nobody would get jobs and would rob each other; the country would be in chaos.

Susan said that the government shouldn't decide things for citizens. This is true and it's also not true. Citizens deserve to be able to make their own choices sometimes, and they're able to do so right now. On the other hand, if the government didn't decide anything for the people of a country, everything wuold be based on people's choices, and individual decisionis have more impact. No group of people would have more power than anyone else and it would be hard for changes to spread. There would also be no government in any state/province/country. So by saying that we should be able to completely make our own decisions is a bad idea.
